About us
Souderton Telford Main Streets is a Pennsylvania Main Street program dedicated to the revitalization of Souderton and Telford Boroughs
A volunteer-driven organization, STMS has a Board of Directors, Executive Board and four base committees, Organization, Design, Promotions and Economic Restructuring.
Souderton Telford Main Streets began in 2000 when both communities were encouraged to do a joint planning effort for economic revitalization by the Montgomery County Planning Commission. The resulting plan can be found below. This plan defined short-, medium- and long-term goals for both communities. It identified the Pennsylvania Main Street program as a source for funding for staff and for projects. As a result Souderton-Telford Community Development Corporation was incorporated in 2002.
The initial Board came together to lay the groundwork for a Main Streets program. They developed a vision, a mission statement, a five year plan, annual work plans and budgets. They conducted a fundraising campaign for the required local match and both borough Councils committed a generous allocation of funds.
As you browse through the website, you will find photos and descriptions of the major projects that this organization has undertaken. STMS helped Souderton Borough develop a streetscape for Main Street unlike any other municipality in the area. It was planned in a way to ease maintenance for the borough staff and used materials that could withstand the extremes in weather our area is subject to for generations to come. We also partnered with Indian Valley Arts Foundation, the Borough of Souderton and Montgomery County on a new parking lot, pocket park and Souderton's newest art installation.
STMS also worked closely with Telford Borough to create a town center at the Marketplace at Telford Station. We applied for and received grants to contribute to the funding of the reconstruction. The Design Committee developed the original plan for lot and buildings. The Economic Restructuring Committee recruited the businesses and the Promotions Committee runs the annual Indian Valley Farmers' Market. This project has won awards and recognition at the county, regional and state levels as an outstanding example of community partnerships revitalizing a small community.
Beyond these very visible and permanent enhancements, we have spent countless hours working with the boroughs to help guide zoning ordinance changes, analyzing and compiling marketing data, creating this website, hosting events and creating opportunities to promote the businesses and lifestyle that we enjoy to the surrounding communities.
STMS is truly a volunteer-driven organization. Without the laughter and elbow grease supplied by your friends and neighbors, none of these changes would be possible. You too can be a part of the positive changes in our community. If you are interested click here and tell us a little about yourself, your skills and the things you are passionate about and we will find the perfect place for you to have a rewarding experience making our little piece of the planet a better place to live work and play.
